CLINICAL EXAMINATION |
During all of the Gait Assessments regardless of what equipment the staff decide to use a clinical examination will be performed. The clinical examination is tailored towards the patient i.e. what the referral is for, their pathology etc. It concentrates on range of movement measurements, strength measurements and in some cases assessment of spasticity.
Benefits: The Gait Assessment equipment gives a lot of information about how a person is moving. It is then the job of the staff to work out why a person is moving in a particular way. The clinical examination provides valuable information to inform this analysis. This is a very thorough examination and provides useful information which can be used for comparison if a patient comes back following intervention, a period of time or after there has been some change. Appointment: The clinical examination is performed as part of the Gait Assessment. The patient will usually remain in their shorts and t-shirt which they have been in for the analysis. The examination is performed on a couch within the Gait and Movement Laboratory. |
